Description
In recent years, the demands on the railway system have increased, as has the need for maintenance and servicing: increased capacity in rail transport, a resulting higher load on the infrastructure, more vehicles in use and increasingly complex systems have intensified the need for maintenance.
This is where predictive maintenance comes in and promises to use collected data to predict when machines or individual components will break down and initiate predictive maintenance measures to prevent unplanned downtime or failures due to defects. This could make the maintenance and servicing process more efficient – an attractive approach, especially given the current shortage of skilled labour.
